  • San Francisco Mission Trip

    San Francisco Mission Trip

Students from West Highlands participated in a mission trip to YWAM San Francisco in July of 2017. Below students share their experiences with seeing poverty, drug addiction, and homelessness first hand in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco.

    Kila:

"The mission trip to San Francisco was amazing. We spent five days serving the Tenderloin District and all of the people down there. It was a very humbling experience. If I had the chance to do it again I would. It made me realize how much I take my life for granted. I'm so thankful for all the amazing memories I have and growing with my friends and my faith. I can't thank you everyone for all the love and support while we were gone."

    Allie:

"I learned a lot this mission trip and had many great experiences. I got the chance to learn more about God and got to experience his love at work during the week at YWAM in many ways. It was a great experience and I'm really thankful I had the opportunity to go and serve God and help the people of the Tenderloin."

    Jessica:

"It was an amazing and enlightening experience. It was amazing to see God changing people's lives, as well as changing ours."

    Sydney:

"This trip was eye opening. It made me step out of my comfort zone and I'm so thankful for the stuff I have."

    Colin:

"On this mission trip I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of trusting in God's direction. Almost immediately after we arrived in San Francisco, I was confronted with one of the most disgusting places I have ever been, and probably the most unhealthy. It was truly depressing to see such a close concentration of sin and misery in the area. However, God worked on my heart all week, showing me glimpses of His kingdom even amidst the chaos. In the end, I was made to see that the impossible tasks that we are called to as Christians are only made possible by God and can only be done if they are started out of faith. I am truly thankful for this opportunity, and it was an amazing way to learn."

    Brenna:

"We saw a lot of awful things in San Francisco. We saw people throwing their lives to drugs. It’s awful to think that there are people who can’t afford to live, so they spend what little money they get trying to escape their lives with drugs. Seeing these people living on the streets and reaching out to them really changes you. All of us changed for the better. All of us are more sensitive and understanding as we can see the loop that pulls them back to the streets, we see them as people, not monsters. This mission has made every single one of us a better person."
